Love in the Age of the Algorithm: Loneliness, Screens and AI

How do we deal with emotional dependence on machines, build antifragility, and bring human connection back to the family and the community?

About the talk

In a reality where social-media algorithms detect teenagers' emotional vulnerability in under 40 minutes and trap them in algorithmic "identity lock-in," the boundaries between human connection and machine mediation have blurred completely. Children and teens find themselves in deep emotional relationships with AI agents, turning inward, growing lonelier, and losing their sense of self.

In a fascinating, empowering talk grounded in current neuro-cognitive research, we'll learn how to lead our children from passive resilience toward antifragility – the ability to use digital challenges as an engine for growth, for forming an independent identity, and for personal agency.

We'll understand what happens in the teenage brain when it meets the machine, why returning to analog practices (such as expressive handwriting and bibliotherapy) slows the flood and builds emotional regulation, and we'll get practical tools for turning screen time from passive, addictive consumption into creation, dialogue and real human connection.

Who is it for?

  • Parents of teens dealing with screen challenges, addiction, dependence on AI and family communication.

  • Education and teaching teams, counselors and school principals who want to understand students' emotional world in the age of machines.

  • Parent communities, PTAs and community centers that want to offer practical tools and a clear parenting compass.

What will you get?

  • 🧭 A parents' toolkit for preventing emotional dependence on AI: recognizing warning signs of emotional attachment to chatbots and screens, and a fitting parental response.

  • ✍️ A "writing and antifragility" kit for home: short unplugged-journaling and bibliotherapy exercises for emotional regulation and identity formation without screens.

  • 💬 Parent–teen conversation scripts: models for empathetic dialogue about loneliness, love, online friendship and social comparison.

  • 🎨 A "from consumers to creators" roadmap: practices for turning passive scrolling into creative projects, writing, art and family conversation.

📋 A digital-presence habits checklist: guidelines for setting agreed, respectful boundaries at home.
